Full bodied and smooth, Chateau St. Michelle has another winner in their 2012 Indian Wells Red Blend. The wine is built around Merlot, Syrah, and Grenache, with three other red grapes adding shading. There are aromas of rose petals, cassis, and cherry, along with notes of vanilla and black tea, as they introduce a big, powerful, yet supple wine with velvety tannins and generous fruit character. This wine is normally $14.99 at Costco FO, but is priced at $11.99 through July 4th. This is an excellent value to add to your collection or just to enjoy over the 4th!
The Kirkland Signature Columbia Valley Red has a blend that is very close to a Bordeaux blend, with Cabernet, Merlot, and Syrah.
You can usually depend on the Costco Signature Series of wines to be decent values …… and this is not an exception. After aging 15 months in French Oak this is a very smooth, polished performer. It starts with some pepper and anise combined with cherry and blackberry fruit overtones along with some interesting depth and finishes with some oakiness. If you drink this wine over several days you will see it to continue to evolve with notes of leather and a longer, smoother finish. This wine is said to be produced by Dolan and Weiss Cellars in Walla Walla, Washington by winemaker Giles Nicault. Grab this wine for some excellent springtime tastings! Priced at $16.99 this wine is a must for your cellar.
Leathery, fresh tobacco aromatics and flavors of juicy blueberry, black cherry, and mineral driven notes are supported by refined silky tannins in this beautiful Cabernet Sauvignon. The finish is rich and lingering, and while it is drinkable now, it will continue to improve with age over the next few years. This wine is 96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Syrah. It is aged 23 months in 25% new oak. This Columbia Valley Reserve is a wonderful complement to grilled meats or prime rib.

When a winemaker produces a Tribute wine dedicated to his two sons ….. you can expect one awesome wine!! This silky red blend offers big fruit flavors and well integrated velvety tannins. It has aromas of pipe tobacco, leather, and dark fruit layer along with boysenberry flavors and a hint of black pepper. The finish lingers with blackberry jam and toasty, graphic black notes. This blend of 32% Cab, 11% Malbec, 38% Merlot, 5% Cab Franc, and 11% Petit Verdot is aged for 22 months in 35% new oak with the balance being 2nd and 3rd use mixed oak. This wine had a Wine Spectator rating of 91 and a Costco Wine Consultant rating of 95!!! This wine pairs well with grilled meats and works well with rosemary and peppercorn. Chateau St. Michelle produces around 71 different wines, of which Costco FO carries at least 5. Chateau St. Michelle’s grapes come from the Columbia Valley region of Washington State and initially started with a winery in Woodinville, outside of Seattle, and later a winery focused on reds at the Canoe Ridge Estate Winery in Eastern Washington.
